Architecting decentralized control in large-scale self-adaptive systems

Abstract Architecting a self-adaptive system with decentralized control is challenging. Indeed, architects shall consider several different and interdependent design dimensions devise multiple loops to coordinate timely perform the correct adaptations. To support this task, we propose Decor , reasoning framework for architecting evaluating control. provides (i) multi-paradigm modeling support, (ii) environment MAPE-K style control, (iii) co-simulation simulating together managed estimating quality attributes of interest. We apply in three case studies: an intelligent transportation system, smart power grid, cloud computing application. The studies demonstrate framework’s capabilities informed architectural decisions on adaptation strategies.
